The Guangdong LNG Project is the first pilot project in China for the importation of LNG. In order to relieve energy shortages in the south eastern coastal area of China, the State Council approved the proposal to import LNG into Guangdong Province as a pilot project in 1998. By the end of 1999, the project formally commenced. In 2003, the Feasibility Study Report for Guangdong LNG Project was endorsed by government.

 
 

After international bidding, Guangdong LNG chose Northwest Shell Australia LNG Company Ltd. as the gas supplier and awarded it a 25 year contract securing an annual gas supply of 3.7 million tons.

 
 

Guangdong LNG Terminal and Trunkline Project constructed and managed by Guangdong Dapeng LNG Company Ltd. is the core project of Guangdong LNG Project. Phase I of Guangdong LNG Project consists of 14 interrelated projects with independent legal entities, with total investment of over RMB 30 billion.

 
 
 

Guangdong LNG Project is a large energy infrastructure project in Pearl River Delta. The completion of the project has alleviated the craving for energy due to rapid development of economy in the delta. It has been instrumental to adjustment of the local energy structure and improvement of environmental pollution of the region. As a pilot project of the state, Guangdong LNG Project has brought along the development of relevant industries of our country and has creatively broken a new path of management of large project by introducing competition mechanisms. The successful implementation of LNG import pilot project has set a good example for extending LNG application in our country.
